WOO WHO?
MAY WILSON (1969)

When her husband informs her, after 40 years of marriage, that his future plans no longer include her, May Wilson, age 60, former "wife-mother-housekeeper-cook" and a grandmother, moves to New York City and discovers an independent life of her own for the first time in which the art, that had once been a hobby, becomes central.

IT HAPPENS TO US (1971)

First released in 1972, this film remains the classic plea for a woman's legal right to choose. It presents the most cogent arguments, through the personal stories of a wide range of women both rich and poor, young and older, black and white, married and unmarried, as to why ending a pregnancy must remain an available choice. In particular, it reminds people of the consequences when it was illegal and what life was like before the Roe vs Wade 1973 Supreme Court decision.

NANA, MOM AND ME (1974)

What began as a film document (recording Nana before she died) evolves into the filmmaker's search for her roots, her relationship with her family, and her identity as a woman. Using photographs, old home movies and direct interviews she explores the mother-daughter ties in 3 generations of her own family and in the process explores the classic female problem faced by her artist mother: the conflict between work and children–the necessary compromises, the incumbent anxieties.

CONVERSATIONS WITH WILLARD VAN DYKE (1981)

A candid portrait of a filmmaker-photographer who believed that film could change the world, exploring the dilemma of anyone with a social conscience who must face the harsh realities of earning a living while retaining their integrity. One of the pioneering American social documentarians of the 1930s, his images of cottonfields, steelmills and industrial towns, and his portraits of unemployed factory workers and their families, provide an invaluable chronicle of those years and have become timeless examples of cinematic art.

THE ILLUSIONISTIC MURALS OF RICHARD HAAS (1990)

This exuberant film portrait introduces the witty work of architectural muralist Richard Haas, whose mammoth murals have caused double takes in cities from Phoenix to Munich. Following in a tradition dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, Haas uses painted architecture to transform the sometimes brutal geometry of contemporary cityscapes. Interviews with art experts, people on the street, and the artist himself offer fascinating insights as the creation of a mural is demonstrated through time-lapse photography.
